Summer 6 News Update: “Confusion over directions cost MCKEP athletes the race”

Following the release of official race photos, courtesy of – rumours emerge that the pair of MCKEP athletes “would’ve undoubtedly won if it weren’t for their navigational skills”. Despite clear instruction from the marshals – photos clearly show them struggling to read McCarthy’s pocket map taken from “A Guide to Beautiful Low-Key Races: Midlands Edition” which came free in a box of Weetabix ‘Cripsy Minis’.

The decisive turn left Simkiss unsure – checking over his shoulder for clarification they were heading in the right direction, despite the numerous marshalls making it virtually impossible to have taken a wrong turn… Simkiss ran on ahead up the hill to ask for directions, enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake before McCarthy finally joined him for the final trot home (and subsequent theft of 2nd place).

Had it not been for this comedy of errors, McCarkiss would’ve surely assailed the unassailable lead of winner Andrew Peat.
