Southam Triathlon, Sunday 8th September 2013
After suffering with various niggles since late 2011, Richard Simkiss of the McCarkisselite Project decided to enter Southam Triathlon to take the pressure off his running, and giving his ‘cross training’ bike rides and trips to the pool a little more purpose.
The event consisted of a 400m Swim, 20km Bike and 5km Run, and started at the early time of 7am from Southam Leisure Centre, where the conditions were very cold but clear and sunny.
Richard took second place in the event, despite a “spectacular somersaulting crash” coming into transition 2 between the bike and the run leg. However he recovered sufficiently to finish with an excellent overall time of 57:54, two minutes faster than last years winning time. Richard’s official split times were:
The overall winner was Rich Shephard from Spa Striders in 55:31. Last years winner, Eoin O’Flynn finished in 3rd Place.
