10k Training – Week 5, Session 1

What should have been a daunting session was approached with positivity and excitement, 6 X 1 mile off 90 seconds recovery. The recovery was reduced from 2:30 earlier in the day and one rep in there was already a loss of excitement and a reality check as to how tough this was going to be. Target pace was 5:15 and although this was hit comfortably in the early reps, Simkiss just about hung on whilst McCarthy slipped off pace towards the end.

The session was much harder than it should have been, one completely unsubstantiated excuse McCarthy screamed after rep 4 was something about accumulated fatigue and how he had just ran 5:17  yet he was running a quicker pace for 5mile races in June. Simkiss agreed to this made up excuse and offered up a 2 minute recovery, a rare moment of weakness from the Staffordshire born athlete who  following a recent Daily Mail exposay has been shown to be masquerading as a Warwickshire athlete contrary to his birth affiliation.

This has to rank as the toughest session so far and worryingly it should be getting easier. Perhaps 90 seconds was a bit much to ask?
